Any anniversary celebration is special. But when it’s a double anniversary, that’s extra-special. And when one of those anniversaries marks 130 years…well, that’s unique.
So it was with the Gretsch 130th Anniversary celebration, which was held this past May 4 at Randy Wood’s Pickin’ Parlor in Bloomingdale, Georgia. The location was appropriate, since Bloomingdale is just “down the road a bit” from Pooler, which is where my wife Dinah and I reside. Gretsch Introduces Renown57 Bop Kits in All Three Colors

Gretsch drums originated what is now the standard “bop” drum kit configuration – 14”x18” bass drum, 8”x12” tom, 14”x14” floor tom, which is often referred to as the “classic” Gretsch set-up and has long been the preferred by the most notable Be-bop drummers in music history. Gretsch is proud to introduce this classic configuration in the popular Renown57 drum sets, a series that was inspired by the great American car companies from the 1950’s.
The Renown 57 Bop kits (RN57-J84) are a logical extension from the wildly popular Renown 57 kits, and will be available in all three colors from the Renown57 Series – Motor City Blue (MCB), Motor City Black (MBO), and the new Motor City Red (MCR). The bop configuration is a compact set-up but it packs a ferocious punch, and the smaller drums are great for any setting where space is limited. Features include the Renown Chevron, an aluminum triangular teardrop painted white with raised beveled chrome edges and embossed chrome Gretsch logo, a rack tom mounted from the bass drum on a Gretsch ball-socket single tom holder, and standard Renown maple specifications for punchy, full tones. The 6.5x14 snare drum is equipped with 20 total lugs (10 per side) and 20-snare strands. These kits deliver rock solid performance in a bop-sized package.

and snare drums. These drums will be released throughout the year and each will include a specially designed 130th
Anniversary interior shell label and a hand-signed Certificate of Authenticity. The labels and certificates will be numbered
to indicate the production sequence of each drum.

The Catalina Maple series starts with the Gretsch maple formula shell. We carefully developed the maple shell specification to produce tones that explode with attack and volume and project a balanced amount of warm, low-end frequencies. All Catalina Maple shells are 7-ply, 7.2mm.
The Catalina Maples are available in two configurations - a 6-piece shell pack set and a 5-piece shell pack set. Add-on drums are also available to allow for further drum set expansion.
