Pete Alexander


About the Artist
Pete Alexander also known as “Young Pete” of El Pus, is an accomplished musician who has played with Kirk Franklin, Rachelle Ferrell, R& B artist Lloyd, and many other Atlanta based artists. He attended the Atlanta Institute of Music (AIM) and studied music under Tom Knight (TLC), Sonny Emory (Earth, Wind, & Fire), Jorel Flynn (Kelly Price & Ann Nesby), Chris Coleman (Israel & New Breed), and Creig Harbor (Department Head of Percussions at AIM). He is currently a member of the Virgin Recording Band El Pus where the styles consists of pop, hip hop, rock, and a few other genres which in turn creates a unique sounding “melting pot” of music. He was born and raised in Miami, FL but now resides in ATL where music, his passion, was strongly pursued. Playing since the age of three, his biggest influence came from playing in church and his curiosity in music was soon heightened by the styles of Latin, R & B, Jazz, Rock, & Hip Hop just to name a few. “I am very thankful to God for giving me the ability and opportunity to play the drums and to hopefully inspire, motivate, and to be a blessing 2 anyone who has a love for music. Practice, preparation, and perseverance are the three keys to becoming a skilled musician. So with those keys anyone can accomplish their goals.”

Advice
It may be boring at first, but please sit down and learn fundamentals such as rudiments, reading, understanding note values, and listening to every style of music. Once you gain these basics the only thing left to do is grow musically and mentally. Don't forget to practice with a metronome!
