We asked... Why Gretsch?

Gretsch has consistently made quality drums for a LONG time. I've used Gretsch recording and heard some great kits live. I wanted to be a part of a respected operation. Plus, there are a lot of styles of kits with different tones and feels, and I like a variety.

Influences

My very first drumming influence was John Bonham. My older brother gave me a couple of Led Zeppelin tapes when I was 7 years old, and I fell in love. In high school I got really into William Goldsmith of Sunny Day Real Estate and Jeff Kropp of Hun. While in the Chicago area in high school, I started playing guitar and singing in a band with a great drummer (Ben Kane), who I would have to say is the reason I ever became a credible drummer. I would watch him during practices and we would air-drum together to songs we loved.

Advice

Be committed but also be realistic. Recognize your musical talents. If you don't have great talents in playing music or performing, find something you can do well and do it. Know your strengths and accentuate them. know your weaknesses and work on them. Work, work, work.

The Catalina Maple series starts with the Gretsch maple formula shell. We carefully developed the maple shell specification to produce tones that explode with attack and volume and project a balanced amount of warm, low-end frequencies. All Catalina Maple shells are 7-ply, 7.2mm.

The Catalina Maples are available in two configurations - a 6-piece shell pack set and a 5-piece shell pack set. Add-on drums are also available to allow for further drum set expansion.
