We asked... Why Gretsch?

When we recorded our last record with Howard Benson he preferred me to use his old Gretsch kit which was the same exact set up that I was using so with no hesitation I was banging on Vintage Gretsch which was tuned amazing. Not to scare you but the drums on the record sound like real drums. Just listen to Billboard top 10 and you’ll know what I’m talking about. Then about 6 months later my brother Christopher’s Fender rep (Jeff) snuck this red to black fade renown kit in our studio before our rehearsal and from then on I’ve played it every show and rehearsal. I feel in love with the punch and attack from the Kick and toms though it still retained my boom that I have to have. Jeff thinks I’m borrowing the kit but I think he knows he’s not getting it back.

Advice

It takes time, patience and dedication. You got to work harder than the person next to you and hit harder than the drummer next to you. Learn from your mistakes and also learn from your favorite bands mistakes. Have open ears and most of all have fun. And if don’t want to wait try out on American Idol.

The Catalina Maple series starts with the Gretsch maple formula shell. We carefully developed the maple shell specification to produce tones that explode with attack and volume and project a balanced amount of warm, low-end frequencies. All Catalina Maple shells are 7-ply, 7.2mm.

The Catalina Maples are available in two configurations - a 6-piece shell pack set and a 5-piece shell pack set. Add-on drums are also available to allow for further drum set expansion.
