Zak Shumate

About the Artist

Zak Shumate is honored to be part of an elite cadre of touring drummers -- the busy ones. He has garnered industry attention for his commitment, skill, and professionalism, and currently tours with The Isaacs, a Grammy-nominated, GMA/Dove Award and IBMA Award-winning group.

Zak has never been afraid of hard work. When he moved to Nashville one month after graduating from high school in Laurel, MS, he took any job he could to learn his way, doing cartage and tech work for some of Nashville’s premiere players, including Lonnie Wilson, Chad Cromwell, Dennis Holt, Dan Needham, and Rich Redmond -- and his own drumming influences such as Kenny Aronoff, Shannon Forrest, Eddie Bayers, and Chris McHugh.

The time he invested paid off in career dividends, earning him the privilege to tour nationally and internationally for over three years with multiple Grammy-nominated and GMA/Dove Award-winning group Ernie Haase and Signature Sound (EHSS). More highlights of his career include working with Jason Scheff (front man for the group Chicago), Jason Crabb, The Gaither Vocal Band, The Collingsworth Family, and Jeff Deyo (formally of Sonic Flood). Now as a touring member of The Isaacs, Zak enjoys playing on stages that include The Grand Ole Opry, Gaither Homecoming Events, and the CMA Music Festival.

Advice

Always practice, If you think you’ve learned everything please quit, Less is best, every song doesn’t need a drum solo, play the song as musical as possible, Dream big, every player started out not knowing how to play so PRACTICE, and have fun!

Catalina Maple

Carefully developed to produce tones that explode a balanced amount of warm low end frequencies

The Catalina Maple series starts with the Gretsch maple formula shell. We carefully developed the maple shell specification to produce tones that explode with attack and volume and project a balanced amount of warm, low-end frequencies. All Catalina Maple shells are 7-ply, 7.2mm.

The Catalina Maples are available in two configurations - a 6-piece shell pack set and a 5-piece shell pack set. Add-on drums are also available to allow for further drum set expansion.
